If you have driven the main corridor of 6th St S and 45th Ave S, you have likely noticed the new construction fencing in place as crews begin the demolition phase of the former mostly deserted Coquina Key Plaza.
While the project was initially met with some resistance by locals, it is a welcome opportunity to many others. According to the article published below, it will provide at least 20% of the 465 units for workforce housing targeted toward households making 80-120% of the Area Median Income (AMI). The remaining units will be rented at market rate.
Those local to the region are eagerly hoping for the retail space to consist of a grocery-store, cafes, and services. Kahwa has recently opened at the corner of 4th St S & 45th Ave S, just across the street from the plaza and many local residents are thrilled with this new staple serving the Great Pinellas Point and Coquina Key communities.
